Vidrhythm Review

Vidrhythm is an iOS app developed by Harmonix. It work on iPhones 3GS and up, iPad 2(which is what I used) and iPod Touch 4th generations and requires iOS version 4.2 and above. Harmonix describes VidRhythm as “fun video-making app” I completely agree with that statement. The ease-of-use and quality of the finished product is amazing.

When you get your hands on VidRhythm today you will get to choose from 21 different songs. The songs are the base of the video and is what determines what sounds(or notes) you will need to make in order to make the song. The next menu is a list of ten styles. The styles are exactly what they sound like, they determine what the video will look like when done. A few of the styles are, Rock Band, Dance Central, and CATS!!!!. Once you make the hardest decision ever you are greeted with a list of six tracks for you to make noise and record. Each track has a recommendation for what noise you should make, and if pitch matching is recommended Chirpy, the tone bird, will give you a guide note for you to try and match. After your video is perfected you hit the “Make Video Music!” button and the magic happens.

The video come up almost immediately and all videos are in the one-minute range. After watching, and probably being scared to death, by your creation you are given the option to “Save and Share”. You have three options when it comes to saving your video,Send to Youtube, Send to Facebook and save to Camera roll. If you were to send the video to Youtube or Facebook it is still saved in your camera roll, so no need to worry about losing your masterpiece. When uploading to Facebook or Youtube you are required to log in(obviously) and name the video. The video renders and uploads then its live on the site of your choice, and that whole process only took around five minutes on my connection(your mileage may vary)

Harmonix never disappoints when it enters a genre. While maybe something like VidRhythm has existed before it does not really matter as VidRhythm is where its at. And going with their theme of User Generated Content, if you have a midi file you can go to the VidRhythm site and find directions to add your own song into VidRhythm. This basic translates to infinite number of songs if you know how to work midi. As of this writing(10/6/2011) VidRhythm is free, but will not be free for much longer. At its regular price of $1.99 it is fully worth the price and much enjoyment can be had making crazy videos.
